My name is Shawn and I'm a 30-something wife, boy-mom, lover of all things fashion and the proprietress, buyer, stylist (and sometimes model) for The Pink Hibiscus Boutique! I'm originally from the Adirondack Mountains in New York State but my little family and I now live on the Southeastern coast and we absolutely love it here! I thought I'd share just a little bit of my story with Y'all.
Once I'd finished my education, I began working in the fashion retail business where I quickly reached management level and where I stayed for quite a few years. I transferred to Virginia with the widely-known retailer that I'd been working for in 2005 and things went relatively well but one day, out of the blue, a new and different industry opened up for me in the busy and exciting world of industrial contracting. I know... that's a big difference! I loved my new role as a project coordinator and I loved the people that I worked for (and with) just as much. They were truly amazing!
But... (there's always a but, isn't there? HaHa!) once our son was born in 2014, I began wondering what it could be like to have a more flexible work schedule... one that would allow me to spend more quality time with our growing family where I could put all of the ideas I had in my head into play and truly explore my creative side. One thing that I knew pretty quickly, was that I didn't want to go back into the "brick and mortar" world of retail management. The hours were very long and it's a field where you're pretty much always guaranteed to have to work nights and weekends ...and in many cases, holidays too. My life had gone through a series of major changes and that world no longer felt like it was the right fit for me. I stayed on in my project manager job for roughly 2 years longer, when suddenly, another new and very interesting opportunity arose for me. I took a huge leap of faith, left the corporate job that I'd grown to know and really love and I dove head first into the world of online direct sales with a company that, well... I won't name here. 😉
While that business worked out pretty well for us for a period of time, a series of unforeseen and totally life-changing events happened in our lives and that, once again, left me with yet another major life decision. I knew in my heart that there was no way for me to stay where I was, but before I made a decision I knew that there were two very important, very serious questions that I must ask myself...
1) Did I really want to continue working for someone else? Or
2) Did I want to be my own boss, make my own schedule - in a job that suited me and more importantly, the needs of my little family - a job that continued to allow me to do something that brought me the joy of working in an industry that I loved and that I knew quite well. And then there were all of the amazing "friend-omers" that I'd come to know and care so much about through the business I was currently a part of. I mean, people who'd become so much more than customers or clients; people who'd made it clear to me that they shared the same "passion for fashion" that I did?
I knew that a yes answer to that question, would take yet another giant leap of faith for me ...and for my family. But seeing that you're here right now reading this, it's obvious that I chose the latter of the two options. And from the day that I made that leap, it's literally been full steam ahead. And ya know what??? I won't be looking back!
